How Are You Showing Up in a Conversation or on a Team? Chris Conner

You know that person who never understands what you are trying to get across? For somebody out there, you are that person. I’m that person.

Jessica Pettitt and I had a light-hearted conversation about what all of us bring to different situations, whether it’s a conversation or a committee. She described how we each have a response style that we will fall back on as a default. And that can be a source of frustration for someone looking at the situation differently.

Instead of trying to fix the other person, we can only control how we respond or what we bring to the table.

This can be important in sales or around the office.  And finding the right mix of styles can make a huge impact on the success of search committees and the candidates they select.

Jessica described three archetypes. Head – interested in details. Heart – connected to the big idea. And Action – just wants to start doing. Most of us show up with two of these to some degree and less so the third. And that makes for a challenge.

Find out which one you lean toward.

Importantly, if you can get all three on a search committee (not always the case), Jessica guarantees your candidate will be around for at least a year.
