Why I Do This

It’s selfish, really. I want to create something on my own. I love working with people to make things happen, but the artist in me wants to leave my mark.

I enjoy talking to thought leaders and marketers who inspire me because I’m curious. Then I share what I’ve learned because I want to be helpful.

From my freshman year in high school, I knew that biology was my thing. The universe knew it before that. It was pure curiosity. Molecular biology and genetics fascinated me.

I loved figuring out what was happening inside a cell, simply by setting up an experiment and counting the number of colonies on a plate or picking the one with the unusual color. Bacterial genetics was just plain fun.

Unfortunately, I didn’t really care that much about publishing. (Ha! Look at me now.) And I had a hard time explaining my work to my family and friends. I didn’t feel like I was helping anyone. Everyone I talked to, whether they were baffled or fascinated or just nodding politely, in the end, my work wouldn’t really affect their life. It mattered only to a few others who might cite my work in their own papers.

A grad school classmate said, “You should be in marketing.” It took a while. I sailed across the Pacific Ocean on my way here, but that’s another story for another time. If you want to hear it, leave a comment below.

It is a privilege to do this. To create a podcast and interview brilliant marketers willing to share their insights with me (and you) so we can all get better at the craft of marketing. We all struggle with the same challenges. Too busy. Too many distractions. Even too many goals.

The pie is big enough for everyone. I’m grateful to every guest who shares that belief and is so willing to teach the rest of us.

This is my art project. This site, the podcast, this business.

I invite you to be a part of it. Spectator, listener, participant, partner, or client.
