Virtual Events Are Different: How to Ensure Success
Because of the pandemic, many companies have tried to create or attend virtual events where they hope to interact with customers. The feedback I’ve heard has not been positive.
Lori Dowd has been helping organizations to rethink what should go into these events based on years of experience in television programming. Virtual events won’t replace live events forever, but they can be used to generate and deliver engaging content.
Her favorite model is the hybrid approach, a mixture of live and pre-recorded content. We discussed the advantages of this mix in terms of content production and audience engagement.
The key takeaway is that this is a different environment. It requires a different mix of content from a live event to keep customers engaged. But it offers an opportunity to create assets that can be repurposed for the long haul.
What about logistics during the pandemic? Lori contracts with local crews to record or broadcast your speakers. She can also direct the process virtually to ensure lighting, etc. looks professional and consistent.
This is one more example of how COVID is accelerating changes that were already on their way.
