Curiosity: a Superpower for Your Career
It sometimes seems you need an MBA, a PhD or both to land an executive position in life science. That isn’t necessarily the case.
Steve Kulisch, GM and Strategic Global Marketing Lead at Fluidigm, described for me the things that took him from an undergraduate science degree to his current position.
If you are a scientist, you’ll be glad to know that curiosity (about everything) and a willingness to ask questions played a big role in his success. And in the course of asking questions, you naturally build relationships which are also very helpful.
Experience in different functions is of course, valuable as you learn the challenges faced by various teams. Steve credits a manager with demonstrating exceptional soft skills- the ability to get people to buy into a vision.
Regardless of your background you will learn something and be inspired by this episode.
